For Waste Reduction Week, The City of Toronto is working with the Black Creek Community Farm through the Urban Harvest Community Reduce and Reuse Program to deliver interactive produce canning workshops to help reduce food waste in our homes. Join us as we learn ways to save your end-of-season harvests and store-bought produce from the Black Creek Community's very own community leaders, Urban Harvest Chef Angela Toussaint and Erma Broomes.
Workshops will provide demonstrations of several food preservation techniques including:
• Turning green tomatoes into salsa, pickles, and more.
• Pickling peppers.
• Dehydrating kale and herbs.
Participants will go home with their own Do-It-Yourself (DIY) preserved goods at the end of the workshop. All materials necessary to participate in the workshop will be provided.
When: Tuesday, October 18, 2022. Please pick from one of the two in-person sessions.
• Session 1: 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
• Session 2: 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Where: Community Kitchen - 2999 Jane St. (Southeast corner of Jane St. and Finch Ave. West - enter at the back of the building/parking lot side)
